Compare this view from the rover Spirit, up in the Columbia Hills in Gusev Crater, with the one below from Opportunity. Both, I believe, are in true color, though that one looks black and white.
I've always been interested in what goes on beyond the Earth -- the planets around us, and our ever-expanding efforts to get to know them. I've been writing about such things for a long time, in newspapers (the Boston Globe for 20 years), magazines (New Scientist, Wired, Atlantic, Smithsonian, Astronomy, Sky & Telescope), and books (Life on Mars, 1979). Now I'm writing this blog, too.
