Hubble sees the hit
These images from the Hubble Space Telescope show the huge plume kicked up by the Deep Impact strike, which continued to grow and expand for hours. The third image was taken more than an hour after impact.
I've always been interested in what goes on beyond the Earth -- the planets around us, and our ever-expanding efforts to get to know them. I've been writing about such things for a long time, in newspapers (the Boston Globe for 20 years), magazines (New Scientist, Wired, Atlantic, Smithsonian, Astronomy, Sky & Telescope), and books (Life on Mars, 1979). Now I'm writing this blog, too.
